We invite you to share
some stories of your quirks or superstitions for gymnastics meets or meet
days. If you'd like to share a short story here, please email it to us with your name (if
you don't mind it being revealed), and your relation to gymnastics
(gymnast, parent, coach, etc.) and a title for your story.
Good Luck
Whenever I go to a meet, I always bring my good stuffed
animal black and white kitty. Now I bring my kitty and I
have a good luck care bear on my bag. I bring them both
to every meet, and they always bring me good luck!

These are my
superstitions when I used to compete
First of all, Never get your hair cut by
a different person the day of or the day before its time
to compete or perform. I did, and ended up in a cast for
6 weeks, haven't made that mistake twice!! When its time
to get into your gym wear. I always put on the left side
first. Left grip first, left wrist band first, left leg
in shorts, left arm in T-shirt ... always left side
first. The most important of my superstitions, ALWAYS
wear odd socks while competing. Being a male competitor
I could get away with that.
Those are all pretty strange, but now
that I am a full time coach some of my gymnasts have
picked up on my superstitions. The legends live on.
Smile, all this stuff is fun!! -Craig
Never eat something bad before a meet
My teacher Mrs. Lynn told us a superstition she said
don't eat any thing that's bad before a meet I didn't eat anything and my mom said I had a donut it my bag and
in the middle of the meet I took it out and started nibbling on it and I didn't have a good meet.
I am a level optional silver and I have a superstition of
don't eat before a meet. I ate before a meet once and I
started throwing up at the meet. 2 of my teammates were
carrying a garbage can behind me all day everyone thought I was bulimic.
I am a level 7 gymnast here in Cali,
and I have a superstition that we use here, or at least where I go. The
day of or the day before a meet, you NEVER cut your nails or cut your
hair. It is bad luck.
